Citizen/Master Camp Programming

We had such great turn outs with last seasons camps, that we are going to do it all over again, this time, with a twist!   Many citizen athletes love to cross train and participate in multiple sports so we think that it would be awesome to have a weekend camp that focuses on two of the most popular sports that endurance athletes love; cross country skiing and off road biking!!  And who better to work with than Tad Elliot!  In both sports, Tad has been a member of the US National Teams, has World Cup experience in both sports, and has twice stood on the podium at the Birkie!

This year we will kick off our first camp September 6-8, 2013.  It will be two and a half full days of great training and learning.  This will be the perfect weekend as it is just before the Chequamegon 40 Fat Tire race and right when a lot of citizen athletes are thinking about starting their Fall dry land training for Nordic.  Get last minute race tips for the Fat Tire and great dry land drills for your Fall Nordic season.

When: September 6-8, 2013

Where: Seeley, Wisconsin; Lenroot Lodge

Purpose: This camp is designed for the Citizen/Master athlete that wishes to improve and progress their skiing while fitting the demands of family, work, and lifestyle into their schedule.  Sessions will be held on technique, strength, and ski skills along with discussions on equipment, stretching, and the body and the effects of aging.  There will also be a session to mountain bike with Tad and pick up last minute strategies on course and racing, optimizing your bike equipment, and riding skill development. You do not have to roller ski to attend this camp.  We will show you what it takes to progress to your goals for skiing or biking no matter what your abilities are as an athlete.  So, whether you are an elite athlete or an aspiring athlete looking to participate in your first major event, this camp will train, motivate, and inspire you to your best!  Don’t pass on a great opportunity to train with a Birkie Champion!!

Friday, September 6, 2013

8-9:00am: Check in at Lenroot Lodge, Seeley, WI
9-10:30am: Intro to the fundamental movements of Nordic skiing. Dry land drills and skills.
10:30-Noon: Double pole and V2 fundamentals on roller skis.
Noon-2:00pm: Lunch at the Sawmill and video review after.
2-5:00pm: V1 skate technique work with video.
5-6:15pm: Strength instruction and session.
6:45-8:30pm: Fish fry at the Sawmill and discussions with Dr. TBD.
8:30-10:00pm: Discussions and demos on ski selection and waxing by David Chamberlain from Boulder Nordic Sport.

Saturday, September 7, 2013

7:30am: Morning run or bike for 20 min. with exercises.
8-9:00am: Breakfast on your own.
9-10:15am: Stretching with Dr. Jim Mullens
10:30-Noon: Basic classic technique session and video with Bill, David, and Tad.
Noon-2:00pm: Lunch at the Sawmill with video review after.
2:00-4:30pm: An additional skate/classic roller ski workout session(specific strength) or an afternoon training and skills session with Tad on the mountain bikes.
4:30-5:30pm: How to deal with repairs in a race: flats, broken chains or spokes, etc…
6-7:30pm: Pizza dinner at the Rivers Eatery in Cable.
7:30-Done: Chat with a Champion, dessert and coffee during discussions with Tad about his pursuit of a US Olympic Team position.

7-8:00am: Breakfast on your own.
8-10:30am: Classic or skate technique and video with Bill, David, and Tad.
10:30-Noon: Video review from the morning session.
Noon: Camp departure.

Camp Fee: The fee for this camp is $224.00.  It includes 2.5 days of coaching and sport instruction, two lunches, two dinners, and some swag.  The camp is limited to the first 30 registrations.  All proceeds from this camp go to supporting Tad Elliot and also a gift to the Birkie Skier Development Fund.

Junior Camp Programming

“Plan to Progress”

These camps are designed to bring the committed athletes of collaborating clubs together to work and live for extended periods during the summer. The focus will be on how to train hard and balance life in a healthy way so as to learn how to perform to the top of your potential. Training sessions, social activities, group adventures, and even Prom dinners have all been a part of these awesome camps.

When and Where: Camp Dates

June 9-15, 2013; Hayward, WI
Programming orientation and testing camp. Seven days including fitness testing, video technique analysis, and annual training plan development discussion.

July 14-20, 2013; Hayward, WI
Volume camp. 7 day mid summer high volume camp with progression measurement.

August 11-18, 2013; Ironwood, MI
Volume, intensity, and adventure camp. 7 day camp on the south shore of Lake Superior. Running, roller skiing, and strength workouts are the majority of this camp.

Camp cost:
The cost for the camps will be $1100.00 for all three camps. You must be working with your local club program and coach to receive this cost. If you do not have the opportunity to work with a local program then please call and inquire about possible options to fulfill this requirement. The fee includes lodging, all meals, coaching, and use of strength facilities.

Camps in Hayward will be held out of the Lenroot Lodge in Seeley, WI. Seeley is 10 miles North of Hayward on Highway 63.

The camp in Ironwood, MI will be held at Wolverine Village. Training will take place between Ironwood and Presque Isle on the trails, roads, and shores along Lake Superior.

Athletes are required to be working with a coach full time and have a yearly athletic training plan if they wish to attend camps. Athletes that attend less than 3 camps will be priced on an individual camp basis fee of $440.00/camp. Athletes are encouraged to attend all three camps and work with their individual club coach between camps.
